Today's Datan from the
Darogan speaks of a
Vision Quest, with changing
Pelider (in the second and fifth
positions within the Datan) leading to
At peace with oneself.
Last night I was reminded how much more I have become at peace with myself when George and I sat down to watch a DVD of one of my favorite films, Federico Fellini's La Strada. It's haunting melody and memorable characters swept me up once again into my childhood and allowed me to drift with Gelsomina through the earthy air of 1950's Italy. Growing up with a mystical, querky person like my mother put me at odds with the society at large in the first place. Then with my growing awareness of my gay sexual orientation, my confusion was compounded. I wanted to fit into society like every child, just like Gelsomina so much wanted to be a warm and stable part of Zampanó's life. But the parents of other kids typically don't know how to react to a single mother who considers her self a priestess to the goddess and spends a lot of her time writing poetry and performing at open microphones late into the night. I was excited to make it to the Golden Spindle yarn and weaving shop over on Cedar Avenue, just off of Riverside. After reading a couple of chapters in the book about making Incan Quipus, and downloading a few articles relating to hand spinning using a drop spindle, I was ready to start looking at various yarns to see how I could go about design my first Cronva.
